Weir with hydraulic actuated flap gates

Built in 1981 along the Oglio river in Capriolo municipality (Brescia province), it’s most likely the first example of application of hydraulic actuated flap gates on a weir. This system allows to regulate the upstream water level and it can totally close during floods.
The dimensions of the movable elements – 4 spans of 20 m each with a retaining height of the movable part of 1 m – and the possibility of precise adjustment of the hydraulic system made it an example that has been replicated in the following years, almost becoming a standard for mobile weirs.
