The technology designed by Obermeyer, where the rubber part incorporates a steel panel that acts as a flashboard, allows to quickly and easily adjust the height of the weir, even in the event of sudden floods, by means of electronic sensors. The sensors measure the upstream water level with respect to the weir and the internal pressure of the rubber chamber.
By controlling the pressure in the rubber blade the steel panel may be more or less inclined, varying the level of the water surface. The system has an additional advantage: the rubber blade is always protected against boulders carried during floods.
In 2006 we installed this system on the weir of Pontey hydropower plant in order to optimize the management of floods and transported material. It has been the first application of this system in Italy.
