First Installations of StrafloMatrix™ in Italy

In combination with the the first projects to exploit the environmental flow discharged by weirs and dams, in 2005 Frosio Next started the design of a plant along Adige river, located in Chievo (Verona province). This plant was expected to be equipped with an innovative technology developed by Andritz, world leader company in the hydropower sector: the StraflomatrixTM system. Thanks to the integrated civil, hydraulic and electromechanical design and thanks to the coupling of extremely compact permanent magnet generators (PMG) with a module of five submerged turbines, which can be completely opened in the event of floods, it was possible, for the first time in Italy and among the first applications in the world, to exploit the environmental flow discharged by Chievo dam for hydropower purposes in strongly constrained framework conditions both from an environmental and hydraulic point of view.
