First installations of Coanda type weir in Italy

In 2001, following in-depth studies and researches on models, a under-river intake screen with horizontal bars was installed, working with the so-called Coanda effect for the Maroggia high-head hydropower plant. This grid allows to separate gravels and sands with a diameter greater than 0.5 mm, preventing them from entering the supply canal. The innovation proved to be effective and is currently the best choice where the environmental conditions allow it to be adopted.
